How the car detailing dilution calculator works

A ratio of 1:10 means 1 part concentrate to 10 parts water, 11 parts in all.

The bottle is split into those parts. One part is concentrate, the rest is water.

Water goes in first so foaming products don't overflow.

The formula: Concentrate = bottle size ÷ (1 + ratio). Water = bottle size - concentrate.

Tips from the trade

  • Follow the label. Stronger isn't better, and some products stain trim.
  • Label every bottle with the product and ratio.
  • Wheel acids and iron removers are usually used straight or at fixed ratios. Check the label.
